What a trade actually costs

There are two kinds of charge on every Indian trade, and conflating them is the oldest trick in broker marketing. We keep them apart on this page, in the calculator, and on your contract note.

Statutory rates on this page are not yet verified. The rates configured below are placeholders pending confirmation against the current SEBI, exchange, depository and Finance Act schedules. Until ratesVerified is set to true, treat every figure here — and every calculator result — as indicative only.
Trade Grow sets this

Brokerage is the only charge Trade Grow controls and keeps. If we ever run a nil-brokerage offer, this is the line that goes to zero.

Government / Exchange / SEBI sets this

Everything else — STT, GST, Stamp Duty, Exchange charges, SEBI fees, DP charges — is levied by law. We collect it and pass it on. No broker can waive it, and any broker claiming to is misleading you.

Information to be verified — brokerage rates are published here once the plan is approved by Commercial and Compliance. We do not advertise a rate before it exists.

  • Statutory and regulatory charges are levied by the Government, Exchanges, Depositories and SEBI. Trade Grow collects and remits them; it does not retain them.
  • GST is applied on brokerage and on applicable regulatory charges.
  • Calculator output is indicative. The contract note issued after your trade is the authoritative record of charges.

Why we will not print “zero tax”

Our marketing team, like every broker’s marketing team, would prefer a shorter headline. But taxes on securities transactions in India are set by law. A broker cannot waive STT, GST or stamp duty any more than a shop can waive GST on a shirt.

If a brokerage plan genuinely offers nil brokerage, that is a real and worthwhile thing and we will say so — with the conditions attached. What we will not do is let the word “zero” quietly expand to cover charges we do not control.

The practical consequence for you: when comparing brokers, compare the total cost of a trade, not the headline. The statutory part is identical everywhere.

Where to check what you were charged

After every trading day on which you transact, you receive a contract note. It itemises brokerage and each statutory charge as a separate line. That document, not this page and not the calculator, is the authoritative record.

If a charge appears on your contract note that is not in our published Schedule of Charges, please raise it through support. We will treat it as a grievance with a defined response time, not as a general query.

Now compare this against what you pay today

Run the same trade through your current broker’s charge list. If we do not come out better for how you actually trade, that is useful information too.
